Bob Motter Body Shop Inc.
Great attention to detail.
Bob Motter is a bit of an odd place. Michael, who seems to actually run things and be the chief worker, and his administrator wife are competent, honest and definitely worth using for all your body work. There seem to be an older couple who are there in the office intermittently that are difficult to deal with, but I would just try to deal with Michael and you'll have no problems. Other workers seem to be clueless as to the business side of things, although they do good work.
Even though the management of the place is a little chaotic, it's worth dealing with them for the quality and promptness of the work.
I must be a horrible driver, because I've been there way too often over the past 15-20 years. Anyway, I just got my 2005 Chrysler 300 back today, and it looks just like the day it did when I bought it. It's stunning how good their work is.
I stopped by for an estimate to a damaged driver door. (The damaged was caused when someone ran into the open door very hard with a bicycle)
I had already been to another body shop and was told that I needed to replace the hinge @ $300/$400.
Mike took a look at it and was able to muscle it back into the correct position.

Mike is awesome!
The guys do very good work, and the owner, a craftsman for sure, takes it to the perfect level and makes sure the customer leaves smiling.
Nobody wants to have damage to their car, but if it happens, I now have a place to take it.
Couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Bob Motter Body Shop. From the first encounter to get the estimate to picking up my truck, service, timely completion of the work and the quality of the work -- outstanding. And, the charges were more than fair. I'll go back there in a second if I need work on a vehicle. Thanks!!!
This a great body shop. Michael works hard, knows his stuff and truly cares. I had two medium sized jobs done with them lately and both time I was very happy with the result. The paint job they just did on my Volvo is just spectacular. On top of that I just like the vibe there, it's a no BS and real "car people" place, clean, well ran, well equipped, and it feels like a genuine, hard working small family business. They always seem busy and I'm happy for them.
Excellent service and willingness to help, even with a small welding job. I'm so glad they were there! And if my car ever needs this help, this is where I'll go.
Had a good service experience here - reasonable quote, work done on time and below the quote. I think the owner may have a bit of ADD but I have no complaints.
This place has been there forever; that alone tells you something. Michael - who now runs the show - is as stated in another review a master craftsman. I brought in a 15 year old car with that nasty clear coat peel that happens over time. I really just wanted it cleaned up and made to look okay - not perfect. It came with perfect color match - showroom new. Got it back a couple days early as well. The price was reasonable and I will no doubt return.
This is the kind of business you want to recommend to your friends and family because you know they will be treated right.
I had a great experience here. I had driven my car into a high curb, and the front bumper was smashed in on one side and rubbing against the tire. Rather than replacing the entire bumper, which would take time and cost nearly $800, they told me they could repair the bumper for less than $200 and, while there would still be a scratch, it would look respectable.
They did it faster than I thought they would for cheaper than they quoted me and the result was better than I expected. Fast, cheap, and good -- I'm not sure what more you could ask for. Additionally, I spoke with four different people, and every single one of them was nice. They all seem like kind people who take pride in their work. I would absolutely recommend Bob Motter Body Shop.
Top notch work, honest, reasonable rates, very nice and courteous. They wedged in a major collision repair despite being booked up for a month and had the vehicle back to me in 5 working days looking like new. Friend has also been twice with the same outstanding experience.
I had a great experience getting my bumper fixed at Bob Motter. I called and told them that I had a photo of the damage to my vehicle and asked whether I could email them the pic to get a ballpark estimate. I got a really reasonable estimate and after checking with a few more shops for pricing, and finding them very competitive, I called to schedule an appointment. I was able to get an appointment the next day. When I arrived the owner took his time and helped me since I had 2 small kids in tow. Fast forward 3 hours later and my car is done and looks great, they even touched up the bottom of my bumper that had been damaged from years of parallel parking in SF. I also liked that they were located within walking distance to Ashby Bart so I didn't need to get a ride or a car rental.
This body shop is great. They have taken care of two of my cars through two car accidents. The quality of their work is great. They know how to deal with insurance companies. They really take care of their clients. We've had them do other bodywork for us and they always go the extra mile. I've plugged them into my cell phone. They're the first place I'd go after an accident. They've worked on two Priuses and they know them well.
I don't write a lot of reviews. I'm writing to keep up their rating since the one-star rating is the polar opposite of our experience.
Mike is a great owner. This shop is so good that we have used it equally for work that someone else's insurance paid for, or that we had to pay for ourself.
They have quality, provide good advice, and offer fair pricing for the work. They even have talked us out of more expensive work appropriately.
I highly recommend this shop!
We needed some work done on our 2000 Toyota Rav -4.body work consisted of replacing 2 qtr panels.the work was done splendidly and the car was ready on time---then when there was a problem with the roof trim (for the support for a cargo rack) the next day he immediately fixed it for us.He cleaned and buffed up the car as well. We're immensely pleased and recommend him for everyone.
First of all I want to thank Mike at Bob Motters for all his help and the exceptional service he provided. I gotten myself into one the worst predicaments of my 22 years of living. Mike not only fixed my car but he managed to get the job done in a week. Even when I came back a week later with more minor damage to the car I was leasing he worked his magic, the bumper was fixed pristinely and in a timely matter. I can truly say that Mike actually cares about his customers.. He actually eased some of the anxiety I was feeling and reassured me that I was in good hands; he even spoke to my apprehensive father. Being a young woman myself I always feel as though body/mechanic shops will try and get over on women, that was not the case here at Bob Motters. Considering the work that was done on the car the pricing was awesome. I actually got to speak to one of the other employees who expressed how great of a guy Mike is and the exceptional services provided at Bob's. This is a really long review but I am so happy with how I was treated and the care put into the work done on the car I was leasing. They deserve 10 stars!
I never thought I would be crying tears of joy driving away from an auto body shop, but this morning I was proven wrong! I recently dented my rear wheel arch to the point that it began to shred my tire. I needed the dent out ASAP so I could buy a new tire and drive the 60+ miles to home safely. Berkeley Auto Care recommended I contact Bob Motter's and I reached Michael (I'm 90% that was his name) on the phone, who told me to come in today and he'd check it out. When I got there I explained to him that I wasn't at all concerned with aesthetics, just wanted the dent out. He walked away, brought back a tool, pulled the dent out in two minutes, then fist bumped me!! I tried to pay him but he wouldn't accept.
I am so appreciative of Michael's generosity and integrity. As a young, unaccompanied woman who is virtually unknowledgeable about cars/body work, he could have easily taken advantage of the situation in any number of ways. Instead, he displayed immense character which I felt was indicative of his business' general ethos. Thank you again, Michael, and God bless you!
TL/DR: if you are a young woman afraid of being taken advantage of by a car repair business, this is a place with integrity
I rarely write reviews, but I also rarely have experiences with a business as positive as this was. After someone smashed one of my car windows and tore out the weather stripping and associated parts, all the Nissan dealers in the area were totally unhelpful, telling me that those parts were discontinued and out of stock, and I should try to find it online. After two online retailers took my money and then refunded it immediately saying that they were out of stock too, I started to feel desperate. I called my regular mechanic at Stauder Automotive, and they referred me here. I got a gritty "what do you need" when I walked in, but this is a busy auto body shop, not a spa. If you're expecting to be coddled, go somewhere that will lie to you with a smile and then overcharge you if that's what you'd prefer. Michael found the part I needed, ordered it, and when I brought it back in, my car was in and out in three hours, with a bill way smaller than I expected. Plus, when I gave him my card, he saw that I work for a non-profit serving Veterans and commented on it, so if you're a Vet or work with Vets, Michael's definitely your guy.
Mike at BMBS is a great guy who tells it to you straight. If he can make it mostly right for a really fair price, he'll do that. If it requires going through the whole insurance process, he walks you through it with a steady hand. He has fixed five of our cars over the last fifteen years, from a scratch on my daughter's car for almost nothing to full body repair after a car hit our Durango.
I came here based on the Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Mike is a real pro, honest, and reliable. My car was the victim of a hit and run while parked in a lot. I first took it to a Geico Body shop for an evaluation and they wanted to do the bare minimum work on it. I took it to Mike and he went to bat for me to make sure the car was as good as new and got Geico to approve it all. Go to Mike and rest assured you are getting the best service possible!
I am beyond excited and happy about how the paint job for my car turned out. It is a 1975 and of course had some rust, dings, cracks, and was in dire need of a paint job. They cleaned it all up, fixed the dings and did an incredible job, it is like a have a brand new car and it is beautiful!
This body shop is efficient, professional and honest. I highly recommend!
I can't praise them highly enough. They'll work with you - a first-class job, quickly and at a great price, or something a bit less to keep the price down. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
